EAM Jaishankar demands stable border for normal ties with China at Bloomberg Forum
· World · Times of India, NDTV
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated that a stable border is essential for normal India-China relations, noting the border between the two countries remains unresolved. He referenced that no fatalities occurred on the border from 1975 to 2020, spanning 45 years, until a clash in 2020 during the Covid lockdown killed soldiers on both sides. Jaishankar warned that disturbing border peace and tranquillity would have visible consequences, noting it took four years of negotiations to restore stability. He added that as border areas settle since 2024, India-China relations are commensurately moving towards normalcy. This follows the Ministry of External Affairs reaffirming Ladakh as an integral part of India after the Chinese foreign ministry opposed naming strategic locations there.
Why it matters
India's external stability with China directly impacts border security and the normalization of bilateral trade and diplomatic ties, affecting millions engaged in cross-border economic and cultural exchange.
