Early Anthropic hire, former METR COO have found a way to rein in rogue AI agents
· Technology · TechCrunch
Rune Kvist, an early Anthropic employee, and Rajiv Dattani, former COO of METR, have launched a startup called Artificial Intelligence Underwriting Company (AIUC) to address AI safety risks. The company aims to provide a third-party audit and certification layer for AI agents, using a framework modeled after the cybersecurity standard SOC 2. Known as AIUC-1, the standard involves a suite of 5,000 tests designed to evaluate agents for vulnerabilities like jailbreaks, hallucinations, and data leaks. The startup has secured $55 million in total funding, including a recent $40 million Series A round led by Ribbit Capital. AIUC currently serves enterprise clients including Cursor, Lovable, Harvey, and ElevenLabs.
Why it matters
The startup provides a standardized safety certification that could enable banks, hospitals, and government agencies to deploy AI agents with verified risk profiles, addressing a major barrier to enterprise AI adoption.
