EC grants second chance to voters excluded from draft rolls in seven states
· India · Times of India, The Hindu
The Election Commission announced on Friday that voters excluded from draft electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision exercise in seven states will receive another opportunity to be included in final rolls. The directive applies to electors issued enumeration forms but omitted as Absent, Shifted, Dead, or Duplicate (ASDD) entries. The seven affected states are Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Telangana, and Nagaland. The EC also directed officials to establish a monitoring mechanism to ensure eligible voters are not denied inclusion while preventing duplicate enrolments.
Why it matters
Approximately 7.5 million voters across these states face potential disenfranchisement in upcoming elections if their claims are not resolved, directly impacting electoral fairness and representation.
