EC sets up committee to review ECINET system amid SIR process objections

The Election Commission of India ordered a review of the ECINET system, to be headed by a Senior Deputy Election Commissioner and include an independent expert from an IIT or IIIT, following objections by two Election Commissioners to the Special Intensive Revision process at least 14 times in 10 months. Field officers currently have role-based access to ECINET per statutory powers, and several upgrades have been made based on State Chief Electoral Officer inputs. The ECI also directed Booth Level Officers to visit homes of voters receiving SIR notices and upload documents online, reducing the requirement for in-person hearings at ERO offices. The Commission further decided all new IT initiatives must be discussed in the Committee of Officers before Commission approval.
