Economist Parakala Prabhakar Joins Delhi Protest Against Election Commission's SIR
· India · India Today, The Hindu
Economist Parakala Prabhakar will join Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke and actor Prakash Raj at an anti-Special Intensive Revision protest in Delhi on October 23. Prabhakar has been a vocal critic of the Election Commission's SIR process, describing it as a project aimed at customising India's electorate and political society. The upcoming Delhi demonstration follows a similar protest held by the group at Bengaluru's Freedom Park. Prabhakar previously raised concerns about arbitrary and targeted voter deletions in regions including Hyderabad and Telangana. He has intensified his criticism and called for the complete disbandment of the election body following an investigative report published by The Indian Express on September 23.
Why it matters
The protests directly challenge the Election Commission's voter roll revision process, drawing public attention to contentious electoral practices ahead of future elections.
