ED Raids Trinamool MP Nadimul Haque Over Alleged Financial Irregularities
· India · Indian Express, Times of India
The Enforcement Directorate conducted searches at seven locations across Delhi, Kolkata, and Ranchi on Monday, targeting Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Nadimul Haque. The agency is investigating alleged illegal financial transactions linked to the MP's Urdu newspaper, Akhbar-E-Mashriq. Sources stated that the investigation also covers the residences of the MP's daughter and son-in-law, as well as an office in Delhi's South Avenue used by the Trinamool's Kalighat faction. Officials reported that the agency was unable to locate the MP during the operation, which was initiated following a complaint filed with the Bidhannagar police commissionerate. A large contingent of CRPF personnel was deployed at the sites to maintain security during the raids.
Why it matters
The investigation marks a significant escalation in scrutiny of Trinamool Congress financial operations, potentially impacting the party's political standing and leadership. The involvement of central agencies in probing alleged benami transactions creates immediate legal and administrative pressure on the party's Rajya Sabha representation.
