Eight Killed as Car Rams Parked Lorry on NH 66 in Thrissur

Eight people were killed shortly after midnight on Friday, September 4, 2026, when a car rammed into a lorry parked on National Highway 66 at Panampikkunnu near Kaipamangalam in Thrissur district, Kerala. Seven occupants died at the scene while an eighth succumbed to injuries in hospital. The car, registered in Madurai, was travelling from Guruvayur towards Kodungallur when it struck the lorry parked in the same direction on a stretch where roadwork was under way. All eight victims are suspected to be students from Tamil Nadu; an identity card belonging to a student of PSNA Engineering College in Dindigul was recovered from the wreckage. Fire and Rescue Services personnel along with local residents cut open the mangled vehicle to extract the victims. Police have not yet identified all the deceased.
