Eight Killed As Odisha Family's Car Is Swept Away In Madhya Pradesh

· India · Indian Express, The Hindu

Eight people, including seven members of a family from Bhubaneswar and their taxi driver, died on Saturday when their vehicle was swept away by a rain-swollen stream near the Maa Bagalamukhi Temple in Nalkheda, Madhya Pradesh. The family was travelling from Ujjain to the temple for a pilgrimage ahead of a daughter's upcoming engagement. Preliminary findings suggest the driver attempted to cross the stream in haste while water levels were high due to 3.7 inches of rainfall in the previous 24 hours. Rescue teams recovered the submerged vehicle, but all occupants were found trapped inside. Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi has offered condolences and stated that the state government is working to bring the mortal remains back to Odisha.
