· India · The Hindu, India Today

At least eight people from Madhya Pradesh's Betul district were killed when a tempo traveller veered off the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and fell into a 15-foot-deep drain near Kota, Rajasthan, on Saturday, October 17, 2026. The accident occurred around 6 a.m. near pole number 384 under Simliya police station limits. Around nine others were injured and are receiving treatment at nearby medical facilities. The victims were from Ghatbiroli village under Multai police station, approximately 65 km from Betul district headquarters, and were related to each other. They had left Bhopal around 7 p.m. on Friday, October 14, to visit the Khatu Shyam Temple in Sikar district of Rajasthan for a four-day tour. Emergency personnel launched rescue operations, though silt and water in the drain hampered efforts, requiring cranes to retrieve the vehicle and trapped passengers. Multai police station house officer Vikas Patel confirmed visiting bereaved families and said they would soon collect the bodies.
