The Election Commission defended a recent software update in its Booth Level Officer application after questions were raised over the term VIP elector-related changes appearing on the Apple App Store. EC sources in New Delhi stated that flagging prominent electors is a standard administrative procedure that predates recent special intensive revisions. The instruction directs field officers to mark prominent individuals such as MPs, MLAs, judiciary members, and figures from arts and sports to track official notices and document uploads efficiently. Officials clarified that the terminology VIP was not used in any official revision orders. The commission also noted that postponed electoral literacy club conferences in Uttar Pradesh were unrelated to the software row.
