Election Commission Reduces Uttar Pradesh Polling Stations by 3,786
· India · India Today
The Election Commission has rationalised polling stations across Uttar Pradesh, reducing the total count from 1,77,516 to 1,73,730. This exercise was conducted across all 403 Assembly constituencies in the state, adhering to a standard norm of 1,200 voters per polling station. The process, which began on October 16, aims to streamline logistics for the upcoming Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls. District election officers have been instructed to deploy Booth Level Officers at the new locations and ensure voters are notified of any changes. The final electoral roll will be published with January 1, 2027, as the qualifying date.
Why it matters
The reduction in polling stations directly impacts millions of voters in Uttar Pradesh who may now be assigned to different booths for future elections. District authorities are required to ensure these changes are communicated clearly to prevent confusion during the electoral roll revision process.
