Election Commission Says Nationwide SIR Order Had Unanimous Approval

The Election Commission stated that its June 24, 2025, order for conducting the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across all states and Union territories received unanimous approval from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. The poll panel clarified its position amid reports of internal differences regarding changes made to Form 6, which is used for including names in voters' lists. The Commission noted that the Supreme Court upheld the order through a May 27, 2026, ruling and also validated the declaration attached to Form 6 for the revision. Schedules for the exercise were issued in phases, starting with Bihar and West Bengal on October 27, 2025, and extending to 19 other states and Union territories on May 14, 2026. The final number of electors will be determined only after the completion of the final publication of electoral rolls in the remaining 12 states under Phase III.
