Energy Secretary Says Nuclear Deal With Iran May Not Happen
· World · ABC News, CBS News
Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated that a nuclear agreement with Iran may not come to fruition after months of war between the two nations. Wright noted that an agreement might instead await a future administration in Iran while the United States focuses on destroying the country's nuclear capabilities. The U.S. has crippled Iran's ability to produce weapons through an ongoing bombing campaign and will continue degrading its capacity with regional allies. President Donald Trump previously suggested that a deal he deems sufficient might not happen and declared on social media that he could not care less if Iran struck a deal. Hostilities recently escalated further after the U.S. struck three Iranian oil tankers following an Iranian attack on two U.S. Navy warships.
Why it matters
The collapse of potential diplomatic talks and ongoing military strikes between the U.S. and Iran threaten regional stability and global energy markets.
