Environment Group Demands Action Against 14 Illegal Layouts in The Nilgiris
· India · The Hindu, Hindustan Times
The Confederation of Environment Associations of Nilgiris has appealed to the Tamil Nadu Real Estate Regulatory Authority to take action against 14 unapproved real estate layouts in the Nilgiris district. An RTI inquiry revealed that these unauthorized projects were identified across Naduhatty, Kodanad, Doddabetta, Adhigaratty, Jackanarai, Kagguchi, Mulligoor, and Burliyar by a special committee. CEAN chairperson Surjit K. Chaudhary stated that developers promoted these plots through social media and agents without mandatory registration, violating the Real Estate Regulation and Development Act of 2016. The association has urged TNRERA to impose maximum penalties on builders and ensure buyers receive full refunds. The exact timeline for regulatory action against the promoters remains unannounced.
Why it matters
Unregulated real estate developments in ecologically fragile hill stations like the Nilgiris threaten local biodiversity and leave property buyers vulnerable to financial fraud.
