Enzo Maresca Urges Man City Squad to Stay Focused Amid Premier League Charges
· Sports · BBC Sport
Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca encouraged his squad to stay focused and positive as they trained together ahead of their Premier League fixture against Liverpool. The international players returned to training nine days after the Premier League published a report detailing 115 charges against the club, including the use of sham contracts to disguise secret funding exceeding £830m. Maresca addressed the players upon their return to domestic duty to ensure the ongoing crisis does not affect their attitude and performance on the pitch. Striker Erling Haaland echoed his manager's sentiments in a pre-match interview, stressing the importance of staying positive and sticking together. City have launched an appeal against the verdicts and publicly maintained their innocence as domestic football resumes after a three-week hiatus.
Why it matters
The ongoing legal battle and Premier League charges directly threaten Manchester City's standing and squad stability as the domestic campaign resumes. The club's response and internal focus will determine how effectively the team navigates the crisis through the remainder of the season.
