EPFO Launches WhatsApp Service, Automates Inoperative Account Settlement

· India · Indian Express, Moneycontrol, Times of India

Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched new user-friendly measures for EPFO subscribers, including a WhatsApp service for checking PF balance, passbook, and last five transactions. This service will also provide personalised guidance on the Employment Linked Incentive scheme. Additionally, EPFO introduced automatic settlement for inoperative Aadhaar-verified EPF accounts with balances up to ₹1,000, eliminating the need for individual claims. This initiative is expected to benefit approximately one lakh accounts, totalling ₹5 crore, and aims to reduce the need for subscribers to visit EPFO offices.

Why it matters

These new services significantly enhance accessibility for over 8 crore active EPF subscribers, simplifying access to their retirement funds and reducing administrative burdens for small, inoperative accounts.
