Erik ten Hag Says Cristiano Ronaldo Let Manchester United Down
· Sports · Indian Express, Telegraph India, BBC Sport
Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag stated that Cristiano Ronaldo let both the team and him down during their second stint at the club in 2022. Ten Hag revealed he traveled to Portugal before taking the job to discuss his plans with the forward, whom he respected as one of football's greatest players. According to the Dutch manager, Ronaldo fell short of required training intensities, skipped sessions, and failed to complete post-match running drills after a 4-0 loss to Brentford early in the 2022-23 season. Ten Hag explained that he had to make rational decisions when Ronaldo proved incapable of executing defensive pressing or maintaining necessary fitness levels. The manager added that these training habits and physical limitations negatively affected teammates during their time together.
