U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled Essar Group's plans to build a massive steel plant in Iowa at an investment of $15 billion. The announcement was made in the Oval Office alongside Essar Group co-founder Ravi Ruia and his son Rewant Ruia. Mesabi Metallics will build the facility with the aim of starting production by 2030, producing 10 million tonnes of steel annually and creating 1,750 permanent jobs. The plant will use iron ore from a new $2.5 billion mine in Minnesota's Mesabi Iron Range, marking the first new iron mine in the U.S. in 50 years. The mine will produce about 7.5 million tonnes of iron per year and add 350 local jobs.
