Europe Faces No Islamic Takeover, Finds Report
· World · Hindustan Times, The Economist
Contrary to rising populist rhetoric, Muslims currently comprise only 6% of Europe’s population of over 500 million. Recent data indicates that fertility rates among immigrant populations tend to converge with native-born levels within two generations. While right-wing groups like the Alternative for Germany have gained electoral ground by warning of Islamisation, the report finds no evidence of sharia law implementation or mass radicalisation. Instead, the analysis identifies the primary threat to European liberal democracies as a combination of Islamist extremism and social-media-driven political paranoia. The study concludes that the perception of an Islamic plot to erase European culture is not supported by demographic or social integration trends.
Why it matters
The persistent fear of an Islamic takeover is actively harming transatlantic relations and influencing policies that risk undermining the freedoms of European liberal democracies.
