Everton Forced to Reschedule EFL Cup Match Against Wolves
· Sports · BBC Sport
Everton's Carabao Cup third-round match against Wolves has been moved from September 9 to September 16 following a scheduling conflict. The fixture was initially set for September 9 to avoid clashing with a Liverpool home game, but the match was forced to move after UEFA confirmed Liverpool's Champions League opener against Atletico Madrid would take place at Anfield on that same date. Merseyside Police regulations prohibit both Everton and Liverpool from hosting home matches on the same night. The EFL appealed to UEFA to change the Liverpool fixture, but the request was rejected as European matches take precedence. Consequently, the Everton-Wolves tie is now scheduled for September 16, and Wolves' Championship match against Portsmouth has been postponed to October 20.
Why it matters
The scheduling change forces significant logistical adjustments for Everton, Wolves, and their respective supporters, while also causing a ripple effect that postpones a separate Championship league fixture.
