Ex-Army captain arrested in Vellore over alleged military intelligence leak to Pakistani operative

A 52-year-old retired Army captain identified as Babu was arrested by Kaniyambadi police in Vellore on October 25, 2026, for allegedly sharing sensitive security information with a Pakistani agent he met via WhatsApp a year earlier. Police said Babu served 28 years in the artillery wing and retired in 2022, after which he settled in Keelavalam village on the outskirts of Vellore town. Central agency inputs led officers to inspect his house, where mobile phones, SIM cards and documents linked to the activities were recovered. A case has been registered and Babu was lodged at Central Prison in Vellore, with a probe underway.
