Ex-Envoy Navdeep Puri Faces Citizenship Verification Hurdle in Punjab SIR

Former Indian diplomat Navdeep Puri disclosed that his documents submitted for electoral roll revision in Punjab failed to match 2003 records. Puri, who served as an envoy in Egypt, UAE, and Australia between 1983 and 2019, stated that he submitted his Voter ID and Aadhaar card to the booth level officer. He was subsequently informed that his details did not match records from 2003 and was asked to produce a passport to establish his Indian citizenship because he was stationed abroad that year. Puri questioned the bureaucratic hurdle on X, asking how common citizens can navigate the process if a former ambassador faces such difficulties. The draft electoral roll for all 117 assembly constituencies in Punjab was published last week under the Special Intensive Revision 2026 by the Election Commission of India.
