Family-linked appointments, funds diversion: BCI co-chair's allegations against Manan Mishra
· India · Hindustan Times, Zee News
Bar Council of India (BCI) co-chairman YR Sadasiva Reddy has demanded the immediate resignation of BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra. Reddy alleged that the Council's staff appointments were made without a transparent recruitment process and claimed a significant number of employees are personally or professionally connected to Mishra. The demand follows recent protests by lawyer bodies against Mishra's decision to deny enrolment to NALSAR University of Law graduates. Reddy has called for an independent inquiry into the alleged financial irregularities and nepotism within the BCI. The Cockroach Janta Party has also joined the calls for Mishra's removal.
Why it matters
The internal conflict at the BCI threatens the stability of the country's apex regulatory body for lawyers and could lead to significant administrative reforms.
