Farmer ID drive hits 11 crore target ahead of March 2027 deadline

· India · Indian Express, Hindustan Times

The Union Ministry of Agriculture achieved its goal of creating 11 crore Farmer IDs five months before the March 31, 2027 deadline. Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the Aadhaar-like unique IDs will reduce repeated visits to offices and paperwork for scheme access. The Farmer ID system, linked to state land records, is a core component of the Digital Agriculture Mission's Farmers’ Registry. The milestone was announced on October 25, 2026, from New Delhi. Farmers now can access government schemes more efficiently through this digital public infrastructure.

Why it matters

Indian farmers across the country will benefit from reduced bureaucratic hurdles, gaining faster access to subsidies and support schemes without repeated document submissions. The digital backbone also supports broader agricultural governance and policy planning.
