Survivors of a ferry disaster off the coast of Cyprus have described chaotic scenes as their vessel capsized, killing eight people and leaving 18 missing. The ship was carrying 267 passengers from Kyrenia in northern Cyprus to Tasucu in Turkey when it began taking on water on Sunday afternoon. Passengers reported hearing loud noises from below decks before the crew initially dismissed the issue as a loose gasket. As the ferry listed and the evacuation order was given, panic ensued, trapping numerous passengers below. Rescue teams deployed watercraft to pull survivors from the sea approximately 7.5 kilometers off the Cypriot coast.
