A massive flash flood and mudslide surged through China's Gyirong port on August 26 following a glacial collapse across the border in Nepal. Surveillance footage verified by AFP showed a wall of debris rushing toward the border trade hub as people fled and vehicles were surrounded by water. Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported three deaths and 558 people missing on the Chinese side, including 260 foreign nationals. Across the border in Nepal and Tibet, authorities recorded at least 270 deaths and 823 missing individuals, including 517 foreign tourists. Nearly 800 Chinese emergency workers were deployed to Tibet as authorities warned that the risk of further flooding remains high.

The glacial collapse and subsequent floods have caused hundreds of casualties and severe disruptions along the China-Nepal border trade corridor.
