Heavy rainfall across three major river systems has caused severe flooding in six districts of northern Odisha, impacting approximately 7.85 lakh people. The affected regions include Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapara, and Keonjhar. Odisha has recorded 972.9 mm of rainfall between June 1 and August 17, representing a 28% excess over the seasonal average. In response, authorities have closed schools in Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar, while Utkal University has postponed undergraduate semester examinations. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari visited Jajpur to oversee ongoing rescue and rehabilitation operations.
