Ford Fathom EV's Top Trim to Stay Under $40,000

· Automobile · Car and Driver, Ars Technica

Ford executives state that the 2028 Fathom EV pickup will have its highest trim level priced below $40,000, with a starting price of $29,945. The Fathom will be the first vehicle built on Ford’s new Universal EV platform, designed to reduce production costs and offer more affordable electric vehicles. Pre-orders for the Fathom are expected to open in the first quarter of 2027, with the vehicle going on sale towards the end of 2027. Ford CEO Jim Farley described the Fathom as a "breakthrough product" after test driving a prototype. The Fathom will include a touchscreen, Apple Maps, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Blue Cruise hands-free driving.

Why it matters

This pricing strategy aims to make EVs more accessible to a wider consumer base, potentially increasing EV adoption. The new Universal EV platform could also influence future affordable EV development across the industry.
