Foreign Arms and Drones Prolonging Sudan War, UN Probe Finds

A UN fact-finding mission reported on Thursday that foreign weapons, drone technology, fighters and logistics networks are sustaining Sudan's civil war, which has displaced more than 14 million people since erupting in April 2023 between the military and the Rapid Support Forces. Investigators documented more than 1,000 deaths in drone strikes during the first five months of 2026 and accused both sides of serious violations of international humanitarian and human rights law, with some conduct amounting to war crimes. The mission identified a network of individuals and entities in the UAE, Chad, Libya and Somalia supplying the RSF with weapons, equipment, training and foreign personnel, including up to 2,000 Colombian contractors who helped operate and maintain drone systems.
