Foreign Investors Withdraw Rs 34,843 Crore From Indian Equities in October
· Business · Economic Times, Times of India
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) pulled Rs 34,843 crore out of Indian equities during October, marking the second straight month of heavy outflows. Investors cited concerns over elevated crude oil prices, global interest rates, and the corporate earnings outlook as primary drivers for the sell-off. Despite the monthly trend, foreign investors turned net buyers in the final week of October, infusing approximately Rs 6,300 crore into the market between October 26 and 30. Cumulative FPI outflows from Indian equities for 2026 have now reached Rs 2.95 lakh crore. Market experts note that while the late-month buying signals a shift in sentiment, it does not yet guarantee a sustained reversal.
Why it matters
The heavy FPI outflows impact market liquidity and investor sentiment, significantly influencing the performance of large-cap and small-cap stocks on the Indian exchanges.
