Forensic Report Still Pending in Amruta Fadnavis Extortion Case After Three Years
· India · Indian Express, Hindustan Times
A special court in Mumbai noted that police have failed to submit the forensic science laboratory report on seized electronic gadgets in the 2023 extortion case involving Anil Jaisinghani and his daughter Aniksha. The accused are charged with attempting to extort Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's wife, Amruta Fadnavis. Although charges were filed in 2023, the trial has stalled because the examination report from the Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratory in Kalina has not been received. The court previously issued summons to the FSL Director and directed authorities to expedite the reports. Meanwhile, the State FSL reported a backlog of 8,655 cases, delaying the proceedings further.
Why it matters
The delay stalls the trial against the accused individuals, keeping the legal proceedings frozen despite police filing charges three years ago.
