Form 7 Objections Rise in Karnataka Ahead of Electoral Roll Finalisation
· India · The Hindu, Zee News, Hindustan Times
The number of Form 7 applications objecting to proposed name inclusions or seeking deletions in Karnataka rose by 19,376 over a four-day period, reaching a cumulative total of 1,10,654 since June 16. Data released by the Chief Electoral Officer in Bengaluru on Friday shows the increase occurred between October 4 and 8 as the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls enters its final phase. The final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on October 27, with October 22 set as the deadline for disposing of claims, objections, and notices. Officials reported that 43,82,315 notices had been generated across the State, with 43,73,745 delivered and 4,088,099 hearings completed as of October 9. The rise in objections coincides with concerns regarding arbitrary attempts to delete names from specific communities through bulk submissions.
Why it matters
Voters across Karnataka face potential disenfranchisement as mass objections and deletion requests challenge the integrity of the upcoming electoral rolls.
