Former Court Staffer Sentenced to 37 Years for Misappropriating Funds in Kallakurichi

The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Kallakurichi sentenced a former Sheristadar Assistant to 37 years in prison for misappropriating court funds meant for Motor Accident Claims cases. The investigation revealed that the accused reused settled case numbers, forged judicial signatures on court cheques, and tampered with court records between 2012 and 2015. The diverted funds were transferred to the bank accounts of her son and three associates. The fraud came to light following an inspection conducted by the then Principal Subordinate Judge pursuant to a 2021 Madras High Court direction. Initial scrutiny uncovered a misappropriation of ₹28 lakh, with an additional ₹10 lakh subsequently detected during further checks.
