A court in Quito, Ecuador, sentenced former President Lenin Moreno to five years in prison for his role in a bribery scheme involving the Chinese company Sinohydro. Moreno was convicted of accepting bribes in exchange for helping the company secure a contract for the Coca Codo Sinclair hydroelectric plant. Due to a physical disability, he will serve the sentence under house arrest. His wife and daughter also received 30-month prison sentences for their roles as accomplices in the corruption network that operated from 2008 to 2018.
