Carter Eslick, a former fraternity leader at Northern Arizona University, has been sentenced to two months in jail for his role in a 2023 hazing incident that resulted in the death of 18-year-old Colin Daniel Martinez. Martinez died of alcohol poisoning after consuming vodka during a fraternity initiation, with a blood-alcohol level recorded at 0.425 per cent. Eslick, who served as the fraternity's pledge master, also received three years of supervised probation and must complete 305 anti-hazing presentations. The university has since suspended the fraternity, and the national organization closed the local chapter. The case has drawn renewed attention to safety concerns within university fraternity systems.
