West Bengal Police arrested former Panihati municipality chairman Somnath Dey in Bengaluru on Thursday following an interstate search. Dey is one of three individuals named in a fresh FIR regarding the alleged hurried cremation of the junior doctor who was raped and murdered at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in 2024. Police tracked Dey after he reportedly switched off his phone and moved from Hyderabad to Bengaluru. He will be produced in a local court before being brought to Kolkata on transit remand to face further questioning.
