Four new governors appointed by BJP, two incumbents transferred across states

· India · Hindustan Times, India Today

President Droupadi Murmu on Monday appointed four new governors and transferred two incumbents, bringing the total new appointments to six. Om Prakash Mathur, former Governor of Sikkim, was given charge of Kerala, while Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, former Governor of Kerala, was appointed Governor of Tamil Nadu. Dushyant Gautam, former BJP national general secretary, was appointed Governor of Sikkim. Mohan Ram, former Lok Sabha member from Jharkhand, was appointed Governor of Odisha. Sudha Yadav, BJP parliamentary board member and former Haryana MP, was appointed Governor of Karnataka. Dr Dhal Singh Bisen, former Madhya Pradesh minister and Lok Sabha member, was appointed Governor of Uttarakhand. The appointments align with the BJP's social engineering formula of giving representation to non-dominant and marginalised castes. Dushyant Gautam and Mohan Ram are Dalit leaders; Sudha Yadav and Dhal Singh Bisen are OBC leaders.

Why it matters

The six gubernatorial appointments reshape state leadership across key regions, with four new faces and two transfers filling vacancies in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Sikkim, Odisha, Karnataka and Uttarakhand, reflecting the BJP's stated commitment to caste-based representation in constitutional posts.
