FPIs withdraw Rs 48,056 crore from Indian equities in October amid elevated crude oil prices
· Business · Economic Times, Moneycontrol
Foreign investors withdrew a net Rs 48,056 crore from Indian equities in October so far, driven by elevated crude oil prices, escalating Middle East tensions, inflation concerns and weak corporate earnings. FPIs significantly moderated selling last week, turning net buyers on two trading days, a sign of easing pressure after net outflows of Rs 35,861 crore in September. With the latest withdrawals, cumulative FPI outflows from Indian equities in 2026 have reached Rs 3.08 lakh crore, substantially exceeding the Rs 1.66 lakh crore withdrawn during the entire year 2025. Dheeraj Gaur of Choice Wealth attributed the selling to crude oil surging to around USD 114 per barrel, weak earnings and uncertainty over domestic liquidity conditions.
Why it matters
The heavy FPI outflows signal sustained foreign investor caution, which could pressure market liquidity and valuations while domestic investors may need to absorb the selling pressure as global capital reallocates away from Indian equities.
