The Indian government has named veteran actor Anant Nag as the recipient of the 2024 Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the nation's highest honour for cinema. The 78-year-old actor, known for his work in Kannada and Hindi films as well as the television series 'Malgudi Days', will receive the award at the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony in Kevadia, Gujarat, on September 22, 2026. Nag has appeared in over 300 films across multiple Indian languages during a career spanning more than five decades. Beyond his acting career, he served in the Karnataka Legislative Council and as a minister of state for Bangalore city development. The award includes a Swarna Kamal medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of ₹10 lakh.
