From Chelsea reject to Watkins 'upgrade' - Jackson makes fast Villa start
· Sports · BBC Sport
Nicolas Jackson has scored seven goals in his first 11 appearances for Aston Villa following his transfer from Chelsea. The 25-year-old Senegal international scored twice against Manchester City to maintain Villa's 100% start in the Champions League. Jackson moved to Villa Park in the summer for a deal worth up to £65 million as a direct replacement for Ollie Watkins. His early statistics show a goal every 138 minutes with a shot conversion rate of 21%, outperforming his expected goals tally by two. Former Villa defender Martin Keown described Jackson as an upgrade on Watkins, praising his predatory instincts in the penalty box.
Why it matters
Jackson's rapid goalscoring form directly drives Aston Villa's campaign in both the Premier League and the Champions League following the departure of their long-term striker Ollie Watkins.
