· India · India Today, Indian Express, Zee News
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay met Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the latter inaugurated the 15-km Poonamallee Bypass–Vadapalani section of Chennai Metro Phase II on Sunday. Vijay urged the Centre to expedite approval for Chennai Metro Phase III and new projects for Coimbatore and Madurai to improve city connectivity. He also sought an interstate metro link between Hosur in Tamil Nadu and Bommasandra in Karnataka. Vijay thanked Modi for the Chennai–Bengaluru and Chennai–Hyderabad high-speed rail corridors announced in the 2026 Union Budget.
Why it matters
The demands directly impact Tamil Nadu's urban infrastructure and school education funding, with the metro projects aiming to improve regional connectivity and the education funds contingent on the Centre's response to the state's stance on the PM-SHRI scheme.
