FSSAI Bans Compounded Hing From Everest and LG Over Quality Failures

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has issued prohibition of sale orders against compounded asafoetida manufactured by M/s Everest Food Products Private Limited and M/s Laljee Godhoo and Company. Laboratory tests revealed that the products contained excessive starch and insufficient alcohol-soluble extract, falling short of prescribed food safety regulations. The regulatory action followed a consumer complaint and subsequent market surveillance across major brands. Legal samples collected from central and state-licensed facilities in Mumbai and Umbergaon failed primary laboratory checks. The tests indicated that manufacturers added 30 to 40 percent less raw hing than required, while raw hing varieties at the LG Brand Unit contained 15 to 32 percent starch against a permitted maximum of 1 percent.
