FSSAI Halts Everest Food Hing Sales Over Sub-Standard Samples

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has prohibited the sale of all variants of compounded hing powder manufactured by Everest Food and Laljee Godhoo with immediate effect. Primary food laboratory analysts found the Asafoetida samples to be misbranded and sub-standard after detecting an alcohol-soluble extract of 0.00% against the prescribed standard of at least 5%. Yellow and black hing powder variants also failed compliance checks with alcoholic extracts of 3.29% and 4.4% respectively. Additionally, the regulator flagged non-declarations of salt content exceeding 5% and spice content on labels for Chicken Masala, Garam Masala, and Egg Curry Powder. The FSSAI directed Everest Food to submit an action plan to rectify these malpractices or face further regulatory action under the FSS Act, 2006.
