FSSAI Penalises Amazon, Swiggy, BigBasket Over Misleading Food Claims

FSSAI initiated penal action against five e-commerce platforms for misleading claims and sale of prohibited products. The action targets Amazon, Swiggy Instamart, BigBasket, Flipkart India and Zepto. Misleading claims were found related to Happilo Premium Date Bites - Zesty Orange and certain dairy products from Milky Mist, including Fresh Low Fat Cream, Farm Fresh Curd and Greek Yoghurt. The crackdown follows increased scrutiny over the past six months on e-commerce platforms and food business operators. FSSAI cited violations under the FSS Act, 2006, including misbranding and display of poisonous food articles.
