Gajab Raat review: Manoj Bajpayee holds together a thriller more ajab than gajab
· Entertainment · India Today, Indian Express
Manoj Bajpayee plays Ajay Nirvet, a corrupt sub-inspector in Delhi who routinely takes bribes and exploits his position for personal gain. During a raid on a seedy hotel, Ajay extorts the owner while his personal life unravels, marked by a strained marriage and transactional ties to a sex worker. When a badly injured woman jumps from a car near Connaught Place, Ajay is assigned the case, initially suspected to involve sexual assault. Rival agencies — a CBI officer and an NIA official — soon clash over control of the investigation into the woman, who is revealed to be a mole in a major drug case.
Why it matters
The series exposes the fictional struggle of a low-ranking police officer whose moral transformation feels unearned, reflecting broader concerns about corruption and agency integrity in Delhi's criminal justice system.
