The Gujarat State Election Commission has announced elections for the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC), Okha, and Thara nagarpalikas on October 11, with results expected on October 13. The GMC, with 44 corporator seats, witnessed a landslide BJP victory in 2021, winning 41 seats, while Congress and AAP secured just two and one respectively. The last municipal elections in 2016 ended in a tie, with BJP eventually forming the board after a Congress councillor defected. The elections will be conducted using electronic voting machines (EVMs), and nominations will close on September 26. The GMC, established in 1966 and upgraded to a municipal corporation in 2010, now covers 11 wards after recent delimitation.
