Gas Distributor Stocks Rise 6% After Govt Push for Piped Gas Connections
· Business · Economic Times, Times of India
Shares of Mahanagar Gas, Indraprastha Gas and Adani Total Gas surged up to 6% after the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas approved an incentive scheme effective from September 1 to speed up domestic piped natural gas connections. The scheme will give eligible city gas distribution entities 200 SCM of domestically produced, lower‑priced gas for each new connection beyond a local threshold, replacing the costlier LNG they currently use for CNG. The new plan is meant to expand active connections and promote safer, cheaper cooking fuel for households across India.
Why it matters
The incentive scheme is expected to lower the cost of gas for distribution companies and increase household access to piped cooking fuel, potentially reducing pollution and consumption costs for millions of Indians.
