· India · Indian Express, Times of India, NDTV

Five people, including two children, sustained injuries after a gas leak from a cylinder pipe triggered a flare-up at Hostel No. 6 on the IIT Bombay campus in Powai on Thursday night. The incident was reported to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation disaster management cell at approximately 10:24 pm. The injured individuals were identified as 12-year-old Ansh Ahirwar, 9-year-old Tahjib Aalam, 37-year-old Ishwar Singh, 34-year-old Shivkumar Singh, and 23-year-old Anilkumar Yadav. Four of the victims were transferred to Kasturba Hospital, while Ishwar Singh remained admitted at Rajawadi Hospital, with all five reported to be in stable condition. This marked the second major gas leak reported in Mumbai on Thursday, following an earlier fire at a labour camp in the Mulund area.

Why it matters
