Nimisha Thakuria, a 21-year-old Sociology student at Gauhati University, was found dead at a homestay in the Garal-Dharapur area of Guwahati on Friday night. Her boyfriend, 26-year-old Ashiq Ali, has been detained by police for questioning. According to DCP Bolin Deori, Ali claimed the student died by hanging, though investigators are awaiting a post-mortem report to confirm the cause of death. The victim's father alleged she contacted her mother shortly before her death to report an assault. The incident triggered a protest and a blockade on NH-17, which disrupted traffic near the LGBI International Airport on Saturday.
