Gaza Wedding Festival Unites 250 Couples Amid Conflict Ruins

· World · BBC News

Gazans gathered to celebrate a mass wedding bringing together 250 Palestinian brides and grooms amidst the ruins of destroyed buildings and displaced people's tents. The ceremony was organised by the UAE's humanitarian mission Operation Gallant Knight 3 to celebrate love and new beginnings in the besieged enclave. The event took place against the backdrop of a fragile ceasefire that has held since last October. The Gaza war was triggered by the Hamas-led attack on Israel on 7 October 2023, which resulted in about 1,200 deaths and 251 hostages. Israel responded with a military campaign that has killed more than 74,640 people, according to the territory's health ministry.

Why it matters

The mass wedding provides a rare moment of celebration and community support for displaced families and couples living through severe hardship in Gaza.
